Humans of New York (HONY) – via Samsung Galaxy S7

So if you haven’t heard of this blog / book / Facebook page – look it up! It is brilliant, inspirational and thought provoking. I have been following it for about five or so years now. This is not something you have to commit to or even read daily. It is a collection of photographs and stories from people in New York.

It is brilliant because each picture captivates you without even hearing the individuals voice. Then the insight you gain from the captions, long and short, make you feel as if you were there.

The Mastermind (author and photographer) of HONY is Brandon Stanton. He is truly an inspiration. Each of his thousands of portraits tell a story and no two are alike.

I appreciate how some of his photographs are close-up and isolate a small portion of the  individual.  Whereas others resemble street photography and the individual in their environment.

I love how looking through his books I am inspired to step out of my comfort zone and try to photograph interesting people. I have not yet made the leap to talk to strangers to get their story, but maybe someday. Below are a few of my attempts.

Thanks for reading!
